Animated landscapes, tumbling plant entities, and glitchy game scenes draw observers into atmospheres of interwoven coexistence. These common grounds are shaped not by mutual understanding or consensus, but by emphatic presence within flux. Observers drift through techno-aesthetic ecologies that move beyond Eurocentric notions of “landscape” and “nature.”
Humans, non-humans, and not-yet-humans activate turbulent entanglements—sentient spaces where coexistence and invasiveness blur.
Four “invasive” plant-actors animate this speculative terrain: Kahili Ginger spreading through Azorean forests; nitrogen-fixing bacteria regenerating depleted soils in Central Germany; fugitive canola plants roaming Basel’s wastelands; and self-replicating nano-organisms dreaming in synthetic laboratories. From all their molecular perspectives, abundant proliferation is not disruption but an affective activation of 4 sentient spaces: language shifters, rhizomatic proprietors, claimers of abundance, and sentient land machines.
knowbotiq (Yvonne Wilhelm, Christian Huebler) have been experimenting with forms and medialities of knowledge, political representations and epistemic disobedience. In recent projects they are investigating and enacting inhuman geographies, libidinous and affective economies and postcolonial violence. knowbotiq explore molecular, psychotrope and derivative aesthetics.
